A Day To Remember
Maximum Fun in Charleston
There are live shows, and then there are A Day To Remember shows, two very different experiences altogether. When ADTR hit the stage on November 11 at North Charleston Coliseum for their Maximum Fun Tour, the atmosphere in the room instantly transformed. The crowd’s anticipation had been building all night, and when the lights finally dropped and the iconic intro of “Downfall of Us All” kicked in, the crowd erupted into pure chaos. You could feel it in your chest as Alex Shelnutt (drummer) hammered the double bass pedal.
Frontman Jeremy McKinnon wasted no time getting the crowd moving, pacing from one end of the stage to the other with an infectious grin and then launching into "I'm Made of Wax Larry, What Are You Made of?”. Every voice in the crowd joined in, shouting every lyric triumphantly. It’s moments like that where you realize just how special A Day To Remember’s connection with their fans really is. No matter how large the venue, it always feels personal.
The setlist was a perfect mix of old favorites and newer tracks, giving both longtime fans and newcomers something to lose their voices to. Early hits such as “Mr Highway's Always Thinking About The End” and “Have Faith in Me” sparked huge singalongs, while songs like “Bad Blood” and “All My Friends” proved the band’s newer material can hold its own among the classics. The transitions were seamless, keeping the energy high from start to finish.
ADTR didn’t hold back on production either. The show was a sensory overload in the best way possible. Bathed in confetti LED light, ADTR turned the coliseum into an explosion of music and motion. A staple of every ADTR show is beach balls flying through the pit, but the band had a clever twist this time, as inflatable basketballs took over for the song “LeBron.” The crowd went wild, tossing them around while giant hoops appeared on stage for fans to sink shots into, once again raising the bar of Maximum Fun. Every detail felt intentional, enhancing the chaos without ever overshadowing the band’s raw energy. McKinnon’s charisma was matched by the rest of the group. Neil Westfall (guitarist) and Kevin Skaff (guitarist) played every riff with precision and intensity that only comes from years of perfecting their craft onstage.
Throughout the set, the band took a brief moment to talk to the crowd, reminding everyone that beneath the heavy riffs and wild stage antics, A Day To Remember has always been about community and connection.
As the night reached its final stretch, the band tore through a fan-favorite anthem, “Better Off This Way” and a newer song, “Closer Than You Think” before slowing things down for “If It Means a Lot to You.” Thousands of phone lights swayed in unison, creating a sea of glow that filled the venue with emotion.
The Maximum Fun Tour proves its name is no exaggeration. A Day To Remember continues to deliver one of the most entertaining and heartfelt live performances in rock. Two decades in, they’ve proven that their sound and their bond with fans is stronger than ever.
