On October 21st the Marquee Theatre in Tempe, Arizona had a full house with concert goers waiting to see Alina, Almost Monday and The Band Camino. Starting the night off strong with opener Alina, she was a perfect start as she had the crowd swaying and waving their phone lights back and forth to her eccentric sounds.
Next up was Almost Monday, an indie pop band from San Diego, California that consists of lead singer Dawson Daugherty, bassist Luke Fabry and guitarist Cole Clisby. As soon as they all walked on stage, the energy and excitement in the venue never stopped. Daugherty’s funky dance moves had the crowd jumping and dancing along, and songs like “She Likes Sports” and “Jupiter” both had music solos that stunned the audience. During their hit song, “Cough Drops”, the band had the crowd clapping to the beat, which created a flawless transition into “Only Wanna Dance.” While the band played mostly songs from their DIVE album, they also played their latest single, “Lost”. Even though the single only came out in early October, it has already become a fan favorite, as most of the crowd already knows all the words. Mid-show, Daugherty paused to ask if he could take a photo, pulling out a Polaroid camera to capture the crowd. Almost Monday is a truly unique band that leaves you wanting to see and know more about them.
The Band Camino had the daunting honor of closing out the night. The Band Camino is an indie pop band from Tennessee whose members are Jeffery Jordan and Spencer Sterart, who both share vocals and guitar, along with Garrison Burgess on drums. The set started off with “Daphne Blue” which had the crowd thrilled and already singing along. As the song “I Think I Like You” began, a keyboard was brought out on stage where Jordan took place behind and started playing. Towards the middle of their set Sterart asked the crowd if it was okay that they played some new unreleased songs and the crowd responded with a roar of excitement. After finishing their unreleased set it was clear the fans were eager and couldn’t wait to get new music and have access to these songs. “Roses” proved to be a clear crowd favorite, as the crowd was screaming along to the chorus the entire time. Throughout the night there were many moments when one of the band members would take a moment to showcase a solo performance, which always had the crowd in awe and in excitement of what was to come next.
Fans’ reactions and interactions with each other throughout the entire night showed that Almost Monday and The Band Camino are a perfect pair for a tour with their devoted fans blending into each other.
