Fai Laci: A set so electric you would have thought they were the headliner

On Thursday, October 15th, New York City quickly became home to Boston locals Fai Laci. Bowery Ballroom is known for late-night shows, with doors not even opening until 8pm. However, anyone who was feeling tired was immediately jolted awake when Fai Laci took the stage.

This was Fai Laci’s first show supporting Australian indie rock band DICE, but they have been on the road for quite some time now, with this show being their 26th stop on their Elephant in the Room tour.

The band consists of lead singer and founder, Luke Faillaci, alongside Zack Putnam (drums), Cal Hamandi (bass), Anthony Cervone (lead guitar), and Michael Goldblatt (keys and guitar).

Fai Laci didn’t immediately jump into their highest energy song at the beginning of their set. They carefully curated a setlist order that got the crowd invested and curious at the start, then had the whole room shaking Bowery Ballroom’s floor by the end.

They opened with “Cure Upon the Hill,” a darker song that sits in a half-time pocket that gets fans' heads banging and bodies swaying. It is the first song on their debut album, Elephant in the Room, and it was the perfect set opener.

“Sarasota” came third in the set, and the crowd erupted. Faillaci put down his guitar, and his stage presence was magnetic. “Sarasota” is one of those songs that you hear on a streaming platform and know it is meant for the stage. It is truly an addictive song.

Fai Laci’s more well-known songs such as “Five” and “Elephant” had the crowd singing the words back at them. Even though Fai Laci was not the headliner, the room was still full of their fans, new and old.

When Fai Laci announced they had only a few more songs left, the crowd booed them. Fans were hungry, and they wanted more Fai Laci: a longer set, louder sound, crazier lights.

Fai Laci ended their set with “Have You Nothing Left to Say,” and if you took a break from jumping, you could feel the floor shaking underneath you. The room buzzed with adrenaline and passion, and Fai Laci was mesmerizing to watch. There is no doubt that everyone in the venue became a Fai Laci fan that night if they weren't already.

When Fai Laci left the stage, it was hard to process that there was still a whole other set to be played by DICE. Fans were spoiled that night. The whole show felt like a double-headline show, with amazing sets by both artists.

Fai Laci’s tour ends October 18th, and if you didn’t catch them on this run, you better be stalking their page for their next tour announcement, because it is only a matter of time before Fai Laci sells out headline shows in your city.
