The stage was set at The Voodoo Room inside House of Blues San Diego on October 5th. Backstage, Southern California pop-punk trio SUNBURNT was getting ready to show the crowd who they are. With catchy hooks, emotional depth, and a crowd connection that felt effortless, it was without a doubt a show to remember. An important aspect of any show is the atmosphere of the venue, and The Voodoo Room was a perfect example of that. The intimate layout and stage design created a seamless backdrop for displaying a genre that thrives on authenticity and raw emotion.

The chemistry between band members was undeniable. Between songs, their banter felt easy and personable, showcasing the band’s clear comfortability on stage. This doesn’t come as a surprise, as Justin Tyler (vocals, guitar), Will Brown (guitar), and Alex Pombar (bass), have over 15 years of experience in the music industry in various different bands before joining together to create SUNBURNT in 2023. SUNBURNT’s set was nothing short of memorable, a surge of emotion and energy. Their latest single “Promise” stood out as a clear favorite, filling the room with the type of sound that defines great pop-punk. Heartfelt lyrics, punchy choruses, and that perfect mix of angst and energy.

Beyond “Promise,” the band performed their full catalog of released singles, including “Unconditional,” “In Front of Me,” “Not About It,” and “Built for This.” Each song showcased a different side of the band’s sound, with “Built for This” closing out the set. A few songs were swapped on the set list at the last second, a spontaneous move that kept the crowd on their toes, with each track building on the last without ever losing momentum.

This show marked another solid performance in SUNBURNT’s catalog of shows, opening for Autumn Kings alongside Home By Five. Their take on pop-punk feels like a natural evolution of the genre, propelling it forward rather than feeling like a throwback act. With this show, they continue to carve out their place in the scene. SUNBURNT brings a sound that collides the early-2000s punch you know and love with a modern polish that keeps their music at the forefront of your mind well after the stage is cleared.
