West 22nd
Live at The Broadberry
Sunday, April 19th, 2026, West 22nd brought their To Be or Not to Be Tour to The Broadberry in Richmond, VA, with support from the talented band Dipsea Flower. Together, putting on a 10/10 indie-rock show, they blended energetic, almost beachy surf rock and folk to create the perfect atmosphere.
West 22nd consists of five members, Logan Madsen (lead vocals), Gabe Acevedo (rhythm guitar/backing vocals), Jeremy Ancheta (Lead Guitar), Jet Beck (Bass), and Liam Mackle (Drums). The band formed in 2022 at the University of Texas, where they first played together in a campus apartment on West 22nd Street. Hence, why the band is named “West 22nd.”
The show opened with their song “Laugh it off”, a fun song with a gradually building beat to get the crowd excited and dancing, before eventually slowing it down with the song "I Wonder Why." Throughout the slower portion, you can find the band taking in and enjoying moments of listening to the harmony of the fans' voices ringing all over The Broadberry, singing in unison.
Things started to speed back up with lights flashing to the music, along to songs like “Back on Me,” and “Time Machine,” a smooth transition for the band to go on and play some fan favorites like “Charleston Girl,” “Easy Love,” and “Sunburns.”
During “Virginia Highlands” singer, Madsen, joins the crowd in the pit to jump around and jam out to the chorus. They also switched up some lyrics chanting “Oh, I’ll find my way to Richmond” vs the usual “Oh, I’ll find my way to you.” During the performance the band threw in a couple incredible covers of songs like “Upside Down” by Jack Johnson, and returned for the encore ending the show with a cover of “Tongue Tied” by GROUPLOVE.
Overall West 22nd put on a powerful, authentic, and very danceable show. You can tell that they have fun and love what they do and it really reflects through their performance, and interactions with the fans. With this being only their second major North American headlining tour I’m honored to have been able to experience this exciting, and intimate showcase of how gifted this band really is. They mentioned they hope to help spread positivity and love; I believe they’re doing a great job at that, and I can’t wait to keep following along their journey.
